Services > Strategy and Forecasting
Our strategy practice combines an understanding of underlying market, pricing and competitive trends with implementation issues, such as distribution, regulatory factors and issues in technology deployment.
Here are several dimensions of this practice:
- Competition: Our approach to competitive strategy is to identify and leverage a small number of key factors that will determine the battle for profits and market share (an illustrative success case was helping an incumbent cellular operator limit the second operator's market entry to less than 20 % of the subscriber base for five years after competition began).
- Forecasting: We have a strong 30+ year track record in being able to forecast new service and product development trends accurately (e.g., cable TV, mobile phones, email, fiber networks, etc.) using a combination of quantitative techniques, primarily research and new product adoption experience.
- Distribution: We generally approach distribution strategy from the standpoint of products offerings, market segmentation, channels, incentives and customer support—we have completed sales and distribution assignments in Brazil, New Zealand, Spain, Ukraine and other countries.
- Technology: These cases generally involve strategic choices with respect to technology (e.g. GPON vs. VDSL, LTE vs. WiMax) that are addressed with respect to performance, economic, regulatory, procurement, maintenance, and other factors, including field experience to date.
Our strategy work benefits enormously from our case managers' and senior consultants' experience with specific competitive markets, on the basis of former industry positions, consulting and research cases, and exposure to international best practices.
The firm’s strategy case experience has a worldwide base. We have helped clients in Argentina (cable TV), Australia (mobile), Brazil (mobile, broadband), Canada (long distance, LMDS, cable TV, broadband satellite), Chile (mobile, long distance, international services), China (mobile), Hong Kong (3G, mobile, local, satellite), Israel (international, cellular, cable TV/DBS), Italy (3G), Japan (long distance, PHS, international), Sweden (PCS), Thailand (3G), Tanzania (mobile), United Kingdom (mobile, cable telephony, long distance), United States (long distance, CLEC, cable TV/DBS, wideband satellite), Vietnam (mobile, VSAT), and many other countries.
