Kalba International assists clients with a wide range of disputes that call for a detailed understanding of telecommunications or multimedia assets, business models and regulatory frameworks.  In the process the firm brings to bear highly experienced advisors, consultants and analysts on issues that underlie business disputes and legal proceedings.

Members of the firm have served as expert witnesses and industry advisors in proceedings before the highest courts in Ireland and Israel, the U.S. Justice Department, the U.S. Treasury Department, Canada’s Attorney General and CRTC, the Ministry of Finance of Algeria, the U.S. Copyright Royalty Tribunal, and state and local regulators.

Our litigation support and dispute resolution cases have focused on:

  • A dispute over interconnection fees between an incumbent operator and a mobile entrant
  • Valuation of copyright, trademark and patent assets in a tax proceeding
  • Contesting of a mobile license award by a losing bidder
  • Structuring of equipment leasing contracts in several countries in a tax proceeding
  • Disputes over the awarding of cable TV franchises
  • A disputed change in ownership of a leading mobile operator
  • A ten-year legal proceeding over the award of a mobile license
  • The appeal of a price regulation decision to a high court
  • The valuation of sports programming in a cable TV royalty proceeding

The cases on which we advise often have international dimensions, calling for an analysis of trends across countries and/or multiple periods of time.

The senior members of our disputes and litigation support practice include economists, MBAs, and industry and regulatory experts.  Our cases have involved working with legal and financial advisor teams in numerous jurisdictions in the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
