Kalba International was founded in the United States, where we have served a wide range of clients—from the FCC and Commissioner of Baseball to numerous operators, technology providers, investors and professional firms.  In Canada we have helped mobile, cable TV and satellite operators, new entrants and government entities, including the CRTC, the Justice Depart-ment, and Industry Canada. 

Our experience includes:

  • Assessment of alternative spectrum fee determination methods on behalf of a major mobile operator in the context of a spectrum renewal proceeding, helping the operator save hundreds of millions of dollars during the new term of the licenses
  • Assessment of the SME and SOHO markets for broadband services in the U.S. for a new entrant, and the respective competitive positions of cable, DSL and satellite-based providers
  • Conducted assessments of satellite markets for AT&T, Cancom, NEC, New Skies (now SES) and Telesat
  • Served as industry experts in multi-year litigation proceeding on a mobile licensing decision, including assessment of readiness for national deployment of a particular technology standard
  • Supported law firm on taxation, copyright royalty and other cases
  • Due diligence for rural subsidy application for satellite delivery of multi-channel TV services; special review of the Hispanic household market
  • A major procurement restructuring study for the federal agency responsible for civilian telecommunications
  • Extensive cable TV franchising experience—and new product/service assessments for cable, satellite TV and technology developers

Our consultants in the region include the former head of regulation at a large mobile operator, the ex-CEO of a mobile operator trade association, the prior CTO of a large Technology and R&D company, the ex-head of the government’s spectrum management unit, and the chair of the computer sciences department at a large university.
